I just recently hit 50K followers on my Instagram account – say whaaat? and I’m so excited to share that with you!
If you’ve been following my journey you know that my previous Instagram account got hacked and I lost 75K followers in seconds. I had to start over, and it’s been a year and a few months since I did that.
But I’m not here to brag – ok, let me celebrate just a little – but to share my top 3 lessons of growing two successful Instagram accounts.
So grab your coffee – or tea- and hear me out:
1. Success isn’t going to fall in your lap, and neither are your followers.
The hustle game is especially at its prime when you’re starting out. Luckily, the Instagram explore page makes it easy for you to find like-minded individuals.
Simply type in a hashtag or keyword, and you’re bound to find similar accounts. When you find these accounts, dedicate some time to getting to know their profile. Direct message them or even comment on a recent post expressing you’ve been exploring their content and how much you like their page and would love for them to do the same.
Also, don’t be afraid to self-promote yourself. Let your friends, neighbors, family, coworkers, your trainer, your barista… EVERYONE…know what you’re doing and how you want to help people. You never know who those people are talking to!
To make matters easier, invest in some nice business cards that contain your Instagram handle and your specialties. From there, you can pass them out like baseball cards!
2. Know your audience.
Don’t reach for demographics that you aren’t familiar with. Don’t follow someone with no correlation of what you’re specializing in simply to change the digit of your number of followers. The wrong idea will be obvious.
Quality over quantity is essential in this step. The numbers will come in time, but for now, you need to set a good first impression. And remember, these followers will be with you for your entire journey (unless they delete Instagram from their accounts obviously). Posting and attending to what they want to see is crucial to seeing loyalty in your followers.
3. Be consistent and persistent.
Your followers want to hear from you, so give them what they want! Being consistent can also train you to acquire a schedule of when to post, film, do giveaways, etc.
Remember, your followers aren’t just following you alone. No matter how great you think your content is, it’s easy for a follower to forget about you if you’ve dropped off the face of the earth.
Time to roll up those sleeves and HUSTLE!
I hope these were helpful!
