Instagram is my favorite social media platform, and as you might know, my once successful account was hacked and I had to start all over again.
What have I learned and how have I re-gained a strong audience?
As a social media strategist for people, I’m constantly improving my skills and studying about social media. This allows me to give feedback and make helpful suggestions on how to improve it.
I’ve learned a lot over the years, and one mistake I kept seeing on Instagram that can become a huge mistake while trying to build a brand is this:
Sharing content that is not valuable (or related to your brand)
What do I mean by this? If you’re a food blogger, make sure you post food pictures, and not pictures of your cat, for example. Sure, you can share your cat and other food things related every now and then, but I would leave these “behind the scenes” moments for stories.
Your content has to relate to why people became interested in you in the first place, and ended up following you.
Once you stray from your niche, people will lose interest, and decide to unfollow you or stick around but choose to not engage.
If you want to post every day, go for it, but keep in mind – it’s about quality, not quantity. I like to post 4-5 times a week; and I focus on providing lots of value and creating a strong call-to-action on my posts.
Focus on knowing your audience inside and out. Reach out to your followers, don’t treat them as numbers! You have to know your audience. Your followers will guide you, and give you an idea about what works, and what doesn’t work for them.
Look at how much engagement you get with your posts and compare – which ones were the most successful, and which weren’t? Utilize this data to help you create (and duplicate) scroll-stopping content.
One powerful tool to implement on stories is asking your followers questions about what they’re interested in – learning about what they want deep in their souls and asking questions on your stories weekly. You can use the poll and the question stickers for that.
Love your audience and they will love you back!
