Starting something new can be a lot of things: scary, exhilarating, confusing, you name it. But with the right guidance and attitude, you can conquer anything! Introducing yourself to social media platforms is no different. And who says newbies can’t be successful? That’s right, keep reading to find out how you can be a successful Instagram influencer!
Utilize all that Instagram offers: the geolocation, the hashtags, tagging accounts, the multiple photo option, Instagram stories, you name it. This will contribute to the branding of yourself or business. For the geolocation, try picking locations not too specific, and only use it when it’s appropriate. For example, if the picture or video you took was at your house, don’t have the location as “my house.” This adds nothing to the content and can turn people off.
Next, hashtags are your friend, ESPECIALLY starting out. Sometimes captions can be overwhelming, so hashtags are a good way to find your voice and audience without digging your brain too much for creativity. You want to attract like-minded people; and hashtags are your gateway to those lovely human beings! Only hashtag relevant terms and be sure to double-check your spelling! Another way to attract like-minded peeps is tagging well-established accounts. Depending on how big they are, this may lead to a dead end, but it’s worth a shot, right? Depending on whom you tag, your photo will show up under the account’s “tagged photos,” which is another way like-minded people can discover you.
For Instagram stories, have fun with it! There’s a lot you can do with it, such as finding the right gifs or stickers to relaying general announcements to your audience in an efficient way. It’s a free app, so might as well utilize everything within your touch, right?
Follow like-minded people. Comment on their recent posts or DM them and introduce yourself and ask them to check your page out. You know the saying, if I scratch your back, you scratch mine? Yep, this applies. If you support others, they’ll support you. Find ways to collaborate on posts to grow your audiences. Be open to feedback, especially from well-established accounts. Be prepared to possibly be rejected or ghosted. But don’t put their business in front of yours. Remind yourself of why you’re reading this right now!
Stick to the plan! Be persistent. Configure a schedule of when you’ll be posting. Daily? Weekly? What time? Once you figure that out, stick to it. Your audience depends on your punctuality! Be resilient. It’s easy to get discouraged in the early days, but stick to the plan and you’ll see progress. And when you do reach those milestones, reward not only your audience… but also yourself! You deserve it!
