Hey, loves! Remember how we all moaned and groaned when Instagram gave its logo a redesign? We liked the first. Or how many of us became freaked out and frustrated at the loss of Instagram’s non-chronological timeline? Why was no one seeing our stories? Or that brief moment when Instagram changed its format to a swipe-right style?
Most of the time, many of us are pretty against the major changes to the platform. We know what we like, and we liked the original. For us, if it isn’t broken, why fix it?
And yet, even though we tend to not want to embrace change, the Instagram Live feature is definitely one you should be embracing. If you are serious about your social media influencing status and the number of followers you have, don’t shy away from this unappreciated feature. It has major bonuses, bonuses that you should be taking advantage of.
It’s a way to beat the algorithm
When you do a live, Instagram will put your live on the top of the stories feed, so your followers will have a chance to view it – therefore better engagement!
Instant Interactions with Your Followers
The Instagram Live feature offers one of the only ways to interact with hundreds of followers, simultaneously, in a real way. The moment you go Live, the little pop-ups let you know who is watching and lets them message you instantly. So many recognizable Instagram faces understand the value in this and utilize it regularly. Whereas you usually only get to connect with followers one at a time with comments or DMs, you can respond to followers quickly and personally. They can type you questions, and receive an immediate response from you, feeling like they’re able to interact with you as close friends.
Build Stronger Connections
Think of how closely connected you feel with people when you FaceTime them. That’s close to the effect of an Instagram Live post. You’re talking and responding to your followers, and they get to see you in a genuine manner, not in some well-processed, carefully thought out post, with a specifically selected photo and an intentionally written caption. It’s organic and real. Your followers need to see that from you in order to really feel connected to you. Since they see your face in real time and they hear you in real time, they get a sense of a real you. It’s more about the followers than it is about you.
When your followers are able to interact with you, they’re more likely to watch your stories, they’re more likely to tag friends in your posts, and they’re more likely to “like” your content because they have a stronger sense of who the real person is behind the processed photo or video. Instagram Live adds a whole new feature of interacting and connecting with followers without even needing to do a meet-and-greet. It might be a little more stressful and intense because you’re live, with people watching your every move and listening to each word, but that’s where they’re really going to understand who you actually are. Be real, be organic, and be engaging.
