Videos are one of the hottest trends on Instagram this year.
Do you jump up and down with joy – or anxiety – when I say recording videos?
I’m frequently asked on the importance of utilizing videos. Are there rules involved? What are the best guidelines for length? What type of content belongs in videos?
So, let’s talk about it! Tips and tricks included!
Videos on Instagram – The basics
To sum up what you’re allowed to do, these are the basic rules: On a regular post, you have to trim videos to 60 seconds or less, otherwise they won’t upload.
On your stories, they can only be 15 seconds each, which sometimes makes assembling a video difficult, but at the same time makes you clean it up, so that only the best parts are left.
Then, what gives you the most amount of time and greatest exposure, are Instagram live streams, which can last up to 60 minutes – I usually recommend around 15-30 minutes.
The same applies to IGTV videos, which are saved on your Instagram page, and can be much longer than the average video.
That’s a great place for pre-recorded and well edited videos. Have I lost you yet? I hope not! With these rules in mind, keep your videos short, but entertaining nonetheless.
The do’s and don’ts of videos
The best way to approach a video is to make it authentic. The key is to be yourself, if you’re the one talking in it, and make it personable. People will connect easily and open up to you if you’re relatable.
It’s more interesting that way for everyone tuning in. The best videos are the ones that go direct to the point, are personable and entertaining!
Mainly focus on being authentic, and speak directly to your audience, with real emotions and a real message.
Don’t worry about being too perfect and having a killer make up on. Just make sure you have good lighting and press record!
Why utilize videos? What makes them special?
Videos make people feel closer to you, and allows them a glimpse into who you are. They will be able to get to know you better. That’s how people get to know, like and trust you. Videos are a great marketing tool on social media and allow you to personally connect with your audience.
It can be scary at first to post videos, especially if you’ve never done it before, and are unsure of what to say or do. But, now is the time to get out of your comfort zone and give video content a try!
Start with just a few minutes on stories. You can pre-record it the first time around, and work your way into a livestream. Pre-recording takes off the edge and eases any anxiety you might initially experience.
One last tip: You can edit videos with the app InShot. I like using InShot because it’s very user-friendly and it lets you add titles to your IGTV videos.
