With the ever-changing Instagram algorithm, it’s common to notice a sudden drop or change in the performance of your content. Like, out of the blue, something changes, and BOOM your story views go down 60% from their normal performance… at least that’s what happened to me recently. It’s disappointing when you’re consistently creating/sharing content and it stops getting the normal amount of views or engagement. Well, I figured out the secret to beating the algorithm here and I’m super excited to share with you the 8k story views secrets!
I started noticing that my Instagram story view went from 7k-8k down to 2k in just a short amount of time. This truly confusing to me because, yes 2k views is a GREAT number, but it was not the normal for me. So what did I do to multiply the number so quickly?
It’s important to share what your followers need to hear, but sometimes it’s good to switch things up a bit. So, I came up with a fun quiz about me and my life called “Do you know me?”. I assumed my followers knew quite a bit about me but it turns out they didn’t!
People are curious by nature, they want to know things about people’s lives. Your life interests them! I’ve found that most people are on Instagram to take a break from the real world. They want to look at funny or interesting things.
The kind of content that breaks the pattern of your normal content pieces are what will disrupt the algorithm. Throw something fun and new in there every once in a while! I guarantee people will stop to watch.
Find the perfect balance between work and fun by picking something you don’t typically share about. Make it interesting and engaging!
Here’s what I did:
I decided to use the Quiz Sticker in my Instagram stories and ask my followers 6 questions about things I’ve done or been part of in my life. Did you know that I once had Leonardo DeCaprio as a neighbor when I lived in New York?! Neither did my followers. In fact, they didn’t know as much about me as I thought they did. But the engagement was huge for this question.
I typically tell my coaching clients that that quality of followers is better than the numbers, but in this case, the numbers are important. If the numbers are good then the algorithm will push your content to be seen.
Breaking the pattern is what will disrupt the algorithm, so relax a little bit and don’t forget to have fun with it!
I have also noticed good engagement when asking for recommendations. Try this out or throw a Questions Quiz into your content and see what kind of traction you get. Who knows, one of these might be the first step towards growth in getting your 8k story views.
