How To Make Your Post Go Viral On Instagram

I think we can all agree that there’s a lot of noise out there in the social media world telling you what to do and advising you one way or another. You probably follow other influencers and listen to strategy-related podcasts, but it seems like everyone is saying something different when it comes to achieving Instagram growth and success.

For this reason, I am excited to share with you everything that works for me and my clients, in three simple tips to make your post go viral on Instagram!

It doesn’t matter what type of Instagram account you have or what you do professionally, these three tips will be applicable to ANYONE. Are you ready?

Let’s dive in!

Share A Quote

If you’re looking to have one of your posts go viral and appear on everyone’s Explore page, then start by sharing a quote. You want to make sure that the quote is a powerful one.

But where do you find a quote?

The best way to do this is to create your own quote. I recommend coming up with a quote that is related to your business, a personal value, or something related to an experience you’ve had.

You want to attach this quote graphic to a background that pops. Make it grab your follower’s attention. You can access many free quote templates in Canva, and easily adjust them to coincide with your brand colors.

Be authentic, share your values and experiences, not someone else’s. Instagram wants you to create new stuff instead of re-sharing content that already exists. If you only share quotes that already exist it will bring the algorithm down.

This is your opportunity to be authentic. Choose something that will inspire people and urge them to save it or even better, share it! It’s not the number of likes that make a post go viral, it’s the number of shares.

The more shares you have will increase the chance of your post ending up on people’s Explore page.

Share Something Funny

The second way to go viral is to share something funny, and this method is getting more and more popular. We all know those accounts that are only funny meme accounts. Some talk specifically about drinking, some are geared towards motherhood, etc. We all love a good laugh!

You’ll commonly see people share memes with a photo or GIF of their favorite show like The Office or Keeping Up With The Kardashians and write something funny at the top that relates to their industry. This method works especially well, if comedy is part of your brand tone.

Canva even supports meme related templates! Take a topic from pop culture, put your own spin on it and convert it into a meme. People are on Instagram to be entertained and to have fun, and that is why this method works well for a lot of people.

Share Tips Using A Carousel

This method is one that I recommend a lot to my clients and that I have personally experienced a good outcome from.

So, what is a carousel?

A carousel is a way to share tips using graphics that your followers swipe through to learn something new on each image slide.

The first slide is the attention-grabbing slide where you share your strong headline. For example, “3 Ways To Make Your Post Go Viral On Instagram”. You then follow with three slides to display each tip.

You want to remember to incorporate your brand colors, create a strong, curious headline title, and be clear in your message. Your viewers should know exactly who this content is coming from and understand what the message is right off the bat.

If your headline is strong and sparks curiosity, it will increase the chance of people swiping through your post and sharing it. Remember, the more shares, the better the chance your post will go viral on Instagram!

Focus on the headline like your life depends on it, similar to an email subject line. If the subject is strong, people will click!

When sharing tips, share something that is a common question people ask about your industry. You could scroll through Facebook groups looking for questions people have and turn those questions into carousel posts to answer them. If people are asking questions in Facebook groups, you can almost guarantee your carousel will spark interest!

Browse Facebook groups are other platforms where you see questions posted about your industry, write them down, and create a carousel post answering those popular questions with at least five tips. You want to create at least five slides to swipe through because the more slides people swipe, the longer people are spending looking at your feed content and the algorithm goes up!

Who knows, your carousel might be the next one to go viral!

For the longest time, Likes were the evidence of a “good” post or “good” content. Then it progressed to the amount of comments over Likes. The more comments you had, the better influence the post performed. But now, the Instagram algorithm thrives on Shares and Saves. Not only do people like your post, but they LOVE it enough to save or share. Shares especially are putting your content in front of your follower’s followers.

If you are curious about the performance stats of your posts, you can easily check this by clicking on the post and it will show you the number of shares and saves.

With all of that being said, how do you increase the chance of your post going viral on Instagram? Include a Call To Action.

The easiest way to do this is to tell people what to do with your post. For example, “Check my stories for…”, “Click the link in my bio to find out more about…”, or “In the comments, let me know your thoughts on…”, it’s as simple as that. Your call to action doesn’t have to be complex. Keep it simple and tell your followers how to respond or interact with the content you’ve just presented.

The call to action is how you get more engagement. This is the most important piece of content creation for a post you want to go viral. Exude your confidence and tell people what to do with your post!

I’m excited to hear about your experience and results with these tips! Tell me in the comments which tip has worked the best for you or which one you’re going to go try.

Now, go make a viral post!

Love,

Monica
